Comment j’ai adapté Diderot

The article relates to my experience as an adapter of two texts by Diderot for the Science89 company (dir.: Michel Valmer): "Entretien d'un philosophe avec la maréchale de ***" in 1998, and "Le Neveu de Rameau" in 2009. As for the "Entretien," I revised and corrected a first adaptation made by Françoise Thyrion, which allowed me to understand that this apparently easy text is actually full of pitfalls that more than once led its first adapter astray. In the case of "Le Neveu," the text had to be reduced to one hour of reading and highlight its socio-political relevance. As I had already done for the "Entretien," I added a few passages from other works by Diderot, which I thought had their place in the dialogue between HIM and ME and which show, if need be, that Diderot actually balances between the theses of Helvétius and those of the Neveu. As for the criticism of society, all those who listened to the reading of "Le Neveu" at the Avignon festival were struck by its relevance.

L’article relate mon expérience d’adaptateur de deux textes de Diderot pour la compagnie Science89 (dir. : Michel Valmer) : l’"Entretien d’un philosophe avec la maréchale de ***" en 1998, et "Le Neveu de Rameau" en 2009. En ce qui concerne l’"Entretien", j’ai plutôt revu et corrigé une première adaptation faite par Françoise Thyrion, ce qui m’a permis de comprendre que ce texte apparemment facile est en réalité semé d’embûches qui ont plus d’une fois induit en erreur sa première adaptatrice. Dans le cas du "Neveu", il fallait réduire le texte à une heure de lecture, et mettre en relief son actualité socio-politique. Comme je l’avais déjà fait pour l’"Entretien", j’y ai ajouté quelques passages tirés d’autres œuvres de Diderot, qui me semblaient avoir leur place dans le dialogue entre LUI et MOI et qui montre bien, si besoin en était, que Diderot balance en réalité entre les thèses d’Helvétius et celles du Neveu. Quant à la critique de la société, tous ceux qui ont écouté la lecture du "Neveu" au festival d’Avignon furent frappés par son actualité.
